iCamDVR Q & A
Q1: Is SuperDVR software compatible with a Macintosh computer or Macintosh computer running boot camp with windows 2000, XP, or Vista installed?
A1: Yes, the SuperDVR software for iCamDVR(2) is fully compatible with Macintosh computers that run boot camp with windows 2000 (SP4), XP (SP2), or Vista operation system. However; SuperDVR is not compatible with Macintosh operation system.
Q2: My ISP subscription is dynamic IP, I do not have fixed/static IP address, how can I setup to be able to remote monitor over the internet under dynamic IP?
A2: For dynamic IP users remote access can be accomplish by the following manners:
1) Using third party software that can be used to detect the changes in dynamic IP and send out the IP changes to email address, software such as IPWatcher, Dynamic IP Monitor, etc.
2) Register for DDNS account from any of the following website; http://www.dyndns.com , http://i-dvr.net , http://www.no-ip.com , http://www.ddns.it , http://www.freedns.com , or any other DDNS registering site.
i) Can I use DDNS services for iCamDVR system?
1)The SuperDVR software does not support DDNS, however; after registering for the #2 above from a DDNS registering site, a DDNS client software may be installed into the hosting computer for DDNS (Dynamic Domain Name Service) support. Then access SuperDVR system by using the dynamic domain. DDNS client software such as myDynIPPro, FTP server (most FTP server featured DDNS service), and etc.
**Most SOHO router/firewall have DDNS service built-in, in such cases DDNS client software is not required.
**Some registering DDNS services are Free DDNS and others are Paid Customized DNS.
Q3: I have a 64-bit computer with a 64-bit operation system; will SuperDVR run under a 64-bit platform?
A3: No, SuperDVR does not support 64-bit computer running 64-bit operation system.
Q4: I have a 64-bit computer with a 32-bit operation system; will SuperDVR run under this platform?
A4: Yes, SuperDVR will run under a computer that is 64-bit with 32-bit operation system installed.
Q5: How long can I record on an 80GB, 250GB, and 500GB hard drive?
A5: Given every channel uses on average 256MB of space per every hour using the default video quality, therefore; (HDD size*1000M/G)/[(256M/H*4)*24]= days
1) 80GB HDD: 78 hrs or 3 days
2) 250GB HDD: 244 hrs or 10 days
3) 500GB HDD: 488 hrs or 20 days
Q6: Can I add more 900MHz wireless cameras to iCamDVR2 system?
A6: No, two 900MHz wireless cameras are the max. However, two more 2.4GHz wireless cameras may be added (not recommended if Wi-Fi wireless network are in use due to possible interference).
Q7: Can I add more wired cameras to iCamDVR
A7: Yes, there are two additional available video inputs port for two more wired cameras.
Q8: I have two audio channels connected. Can I have both audio channels recorded at the same time?
A8: No, only one audio channel can be selected for recording.
The two audio channels are designed for conveniently interchange between the two and if one audio port fails, the other can be used, like a backup port.
Q9: For remote monitoring over the Internet, is it better to use fixed/static IP than regular dynamic IP (common cases)?
A9: Yes, it is better to use fixed/static IP address for stability and private network connection without the hassle of registering for DDNS or use other third party software.
Q10: How can I register for a fixed/static IP?
A10: Please check with your Internet service provider (ISP) to register for fixed/static IP. Additional monthly fee may apply.
Q11: Do I have to partition my hard drive when using iCamDVR?
A11: Not recommended if an operation system is currently running, doing so may whipped out the whole operation system if not familiar with partitioning. However; we encourage and recommend storing video data in partition drives other than the operation system partition. Or, use external hard drive enclosures for storage.
